Youth Stability and Support Alliance.
With YSSA, we have undertaken community work that extends beyond borders. Whether through workshops nationwide, collaborations, or even research with group members, the stigma of mental health is continuously worn down in a positive light.
The workshops hosted consisted of presentations on adolescent mental health derived from our manual. The presentation addressed the harsh circumstances of a teenager, whether going through the pressure of academics or even in an athletic context. It also informed those of reaching out for help, especially in a therapeutic context, mentioning and explaining various solutions for those affected with suicidal ideations. More information can be found in our manual, which provides in-depth explanations of therapies such as behavioral activation and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. Following the presentation, workshops consisted of an inclusive environment with the creation of our distraction kits. For a younger audience, distraction kits were created as a positive coping strategy targeting the five senses without the explanation of the daunting subject of suicidal ideations and its repercussions.
At YSSA, we were hosted as guest speakers for an athletic camp, informing athletes of the harsh conditions sports may bring, especially in the physically demanding aspects. Suicidal behaviors were thoroughly explained, and the culture surrounding sports of mental suppression and negligence was discussed.
Future projects include collaboration and recognition for our manual…
